Survey Department is a technical department in the Ministry of Lands and Survey and has the following functions:
FIELD UNIT:
- General Demarcation and Survey of Plots:
This includes beaconing and production of layout for various uses. Survey of single plots for conversion of Local Government Certificate of Occupancy, preparation of site plan for farm lands, fillings stations, etc (on demand). Re-establishment of lost beacons (on extra charges) etc.
- Land in dispute Survey:
Surveys connected with obliterated boundaries of plots, or other land in dispute surveys for purpose of Court investigations are handled here.
- Setting out of Engineering Projects:
These include location of routes, buildings, Dam sites and related survey for purposes of topographical details. However, these surveys are restricted only to government owned projects.
- Establishment of Control Pillars:
Vertical and horizontal control pillar are established by this unit for connection by both Government and private surveyors.
- Boundary Disputes:
Issues relating to inter-state boundaries are handled here jointly with Federal Survey Boundary Unit, while Inter-Local Government, Districts etc, are sole responsibilities of this unit. This unit is controlled by an officer designated OCF (Officer i/c Field)
EXAMINATION UNIT:
- Supply of information and preparation of jacket for field work.
- Check computation of completed field work
- Storage of survey records such as co-ordinates and supply of survey data to licensed Surveyors. This unit is headed by an Officer designated OCX (Officer i/c Examination).
MAPPING UNIT:
- Photogrammetric Compilation:
Here pencil plot maps are produced from vertical or near vertical aerial photographs of different towns and villages in the State.
- Photo-Lithographic or printing process:
Finished maps, calendars, news papers etc. may be printed
CARTOGRAPHIC UNIT:
- This deals with charting and reporting on survey plans (C & R) preparation of Title Deed Trace (TDT) for attachment to Certificate of Occupancy, map revision and fair copy preparation map sheets compiled from photogrammetry unit.
- Map Sales
Completed map sheets of different towns are kept in a map Depot for sales to or inspection by the public. All Survey maps, charts or diagrams on different scales are stored here.
